Washington D.C.

Last weekend, we headed to Washington DC, for a post-tax season mini vacation.

We left late Friday morning, stopped for a quick lunch at MCD and got there a little after 3:00.

The first stop was one of my requests - Georgetown Cupcakes. I love watching DC Cupcakes on TLC and have wanted to go there since I watched the first episode. There were so many choices to make, but Grammy and I decided on the Chocolate Ganache, Tom and Tim got the Cherry Blossom and the kids both got Vanilla2. I also got a Red Velvet (one of their bestsellers) to have the next night. I LOVED them and would definitely want to go back. :)

 Best cupcakes!

Excuse Grace's partially eaten one (and Tommy was eating his)

That night we went to Tortoise & Hare Bar and Grill (http://www.tortoiseandharebar.com/) for dinner. It was something I found online and it had good reviews. The food was yummy and the bar turned out to be a Steelers Bar - how funny!

Saturday morning, after a big breakfast at our hotel, we took the shuttle over to the mall to ride on this open top bus (http://www.dctours.us/?event=offer.detail&offerId=2162) that Grammy found online. It was pretty chilly, but the kids insisted on riding up top - so we had to do that.

Brr....everyone else was down below - haha

We ended up seeing all the important sites and went to the Museum of Natural History for a bit. We also went to another pub for a late lunch (http://www.elephantcastle.com/dc_penn). We ended up getting back to the mall at 6:30. We spent the rest of the night in the hotel, since we were all tired.

Tom enjoyed it more than the kids

What?

Sunday, we had another big breakfast at the hotel, loaded up the car and headed to the National Zoo. We got there a little after it opened and it wasn't too crowded at first. The kids got to see all the animals they wanted and we let them ride the carousel before we left.

Tommy wanted a high one (I think it was a bear)

Pap-Pap wanted a turn

On the way home we stopped at this cute little tavern in Bedford, PA for dinner (http://www.jeanbonnettavern.com/).

Grace was so tired that she went to sleep eating her applesauce

It was a fun, jam-packed weekend.
